Scope of training and examinations for the train driver’s licence conducted by the centre for continuing education OTTIMA plus
Objective of the training
The purpose of the training is to prepare candidates for obtaining the train driver’s licence.
During the course, participants acquire knowledge in the following areas:
Railway technology, including safety and operational regulations,
Risks associated with railway operations and the various measures applied to mitigate such risks,
Functioning and organisation of railway operations,
Trains, their compositions, and technical requirements applicable to traction units, passenger and freight wagons, as well as other types of rolling stock.
Upon completion of the training, a person applying for the train driver’s licence shall be able to:
Understand the specific requirements related to the performance of train driving duties,
Know and apply the safety regulations applicable to railway personnel,
Identify and recognise various types of rolling stock,
Know and apply established work rules and procedures,
Know and apply the mandatory documentation, including:
the Operating Procedures Manual and the Line Instruction as defined in the Technical Specifications for Interoperability – Operation and Traffic Management (TSI OPE),
the Driver’s Manual, and
the Failure and Incident Response Manual,
Know and apply the procedures applicable in the event of accidents involving persons,
Identify operational hazards associated with railway activities,
Know and apply the principles governing traffic safety,
Know and apply the fundamental principles of electrotechnics,
Know and comply with occupational health and safety (OHS) and fire protection regulations,
Know and apply procedures for train and emergency radio communication.
